|نبذة||This book was written in order to find out whether religion (represented by Western Christianity in this study) could survive a formal separation of Church from State and how this same Church managed to keep the faith and respond to the powerful philosophical and intellectual challenge that saturated the Western mindset after the so called "Age of Reason". This historical phenomenon called for a review of the factors that appear to have been detrimental to Christianity and to Western culture. Towards this end; the imapact of the secular philosophies and of the revolutionary and often brilliant writings of authors of the caliber of Voltaire, Rousseau and Nietzsche and many others were reviewed. This was followed by a short review of the influence of Marx and Lenin and then of Freud. The poorly appreciated role of ethical relativism and the moral degringolade of the West after the 1960s were given the importance they deserve in this review.|
